Road and bridge construction updates in Gros Morne

Rocky Harbour, NL, June 23, 2017 – Parks Canada is pleased to provide updates regarding ongoing roadwork occurring in Gros Morne National Park.

Final phases of work on the Southeast Brook Bridge will begin June 23rd. To complete this work, the road width approaching the bridge will be reduced to a single lane of traffic. The single lane gravel diversion will be in place for approximately one week. Traffic will be controlled by flag persons during daylight/construction hours and by traffic lights at night.

Additionally, starting on June 24th, two new culverts will be installed along Route 430. In those two areas of the roadway, traffic will be diverted onto a single unpaved lane. This work is expected to take approximately one week.

Public safety is a priority. Motorists are advised to travel with caution, obey all on-site signage and posted speed limits, and watch for travel instructions from flag persons and safety personnel. We also encourage travellers to give themselves extra time as they drive through the park.

These projects are parts of Parks Canada’s unprecedented $3 billion federal infrastructure investment program in national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas across the country.

Parks Canada will issue further public advisories as the work progresses.
